Peterbilt Unveils New Fuel Efficient Truck

DATE: 12/20/05

With gas prices rising, consumers have been more conscious of the growing costs associated with filling up, often changing travel habits. Truck drivers, unable to avoid consumption, must find ways to improve their bottom line by maximizing fuel efficiency. In response to these needs, Peterbilt Motors has introduced its new, aerodynamic Model 386, a landmark of the fuel efficient design. “Compared to its predecessor and other trucks on the market, the Model 386 was developed to significantly improve fuel economy, increase driver productivity, greater resale value, and as a tool for attracting and retaining drivers,” said Kitie Hermes, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for JX Enterprises, a group of Peterbilt dealerships based in Wisconsin and Illinois. Peterbilt engineers designed every aspect of the Model 386 to achieve maximum aerodynamic efficiency—improving fuel economy by 3/10 th of a mile per gallon.

The Model 386 features many improvements over older models, including increased forward visibility, improved turning radius, easy conversion to a daycab for resale and a wider variety of cab amenities. All the changes have generated quite a bit of excitement in the trucking community. In a recent article in Heavy Duty Trucking September 2005 edition, Senior Editor Steve Sturgess critique of the new Model 386 shows very promising results. Steve took a new Model 386 for a test drive and with less than 2000 miles on the new tractor posed a whopping 6.88 mpg, a true testament to the aerodynamic efficiency of this new Peterbilt product. What's more, it combines the potential fuel economy with the very traditional values of the Model 379. In other words it's a Peterbilt, the leader in high quality trucks that drivers expect and lower operating cost that fleets demand.
